A Note from the CEO - Recent Supreme Court Ruling

The recent Supreme Court ruling on homeless encampments marks a pivotal moment in homelessness policy; with the potential for both positive and negative impacts at local, statewide, and national levels. This decision may be the most significant change in a decade.

At Catholic Charities, our focus will remain local, with the objective to build upon the collaborative partnership we’ve established with law enforcement. Today, we are their first call and we are ensuring this process stays in place. We will continue to work with our partners in local law enforcement agencies to offer services first.

The lack of resources for our clients is real, and this is especially true in Sonoma County, in the areas of mental health and substance abuse. We will continue to advocate and look for creative ways to continue to expand our community’s resources for those we serve.

This new ruling will likely cause an uptick in the number of people who are coming to Catholic Charities for services. Our goal is to help them navigate a pathway to being housed, and to find a place of belonging in our community.
